Why I made this course...

For many years I had a false belief, an unconscious assumption that if I just kept playing the guitar—learning songs, jamming with friends, picking up bits of technique—eventually everything would just click, and I would end up with a deep understanding of the fretboard.

But after 20 years of playing, I had to admit to myself: that moment wasn’t coming.

Despite two decades of consistent playing, I still felt lost.

The fretboard was like a giant city I had moved to but never fully understood.

I knew how to get to a few familiar spots—some chord shapes, a couple scale positions. I could find my way to them like coffee shops I’d visited a dozen times. But I didn’t know how they connected. I didn’t have a sense of the whole.

I was living in this city, playing in it every day, but I didn’t feel at home.

I couldn’t wander. I couldn’t explore. I didn’t know the neighborhoods, the shortcuts, the back alleys that connect the ideas together. If someone called out a chord progression, I didn’t have clear routes to navigate—it was like being dropped in an unfamiliar part of town with no map.

I wanted more than just landmarks. I wanted to understand the layout.

I wanted the fretboard to feel like my city.

A place I knew deeply. A place I could move through with confidence. A place where I wasn’t just surviving—I was expressing. Creating. Belonging.

Watching master guitarists play, I could see the difference. They weren’t just playing notes—they were moving through the fretboard like locals. Every phrase had direction. Every note made sense. They weren’t guessing. They weren’t surviving. They were at home.

I knew something had to change.

My guitar playing was a house built on a shaky foundation of weak fundamentals. I needed to go back to the beginning—to rebuild my relationship with the instrument from the ground up.

I searched everywhere for a course that could help, but nothing gave me what I needed.

Some programs were too broad, covering a little bit of everything. Others were too narrow—focused on specific styles or techniques. None of them connected all the dots. They were just more of what I had already been doing. More isolated knowledge.

What I wanted was a map.

A real sense of orientation.

A way to see how it all connected—the scales, chords, arpeggios, and progressions.

A way to make the fretboard feel like home.

So I built it myself.

I think that’s what most of us really want.

Not just to “know the neck,” but to speak the language of music with fluency and emotion.

A lot of players talk about fretboard fluency—but what does that actually mean?

In language, fluency isn’t just about memorizing every word in the dictionary.

It’s about putting those words together in a way that says what we want to say.

Musical fluency is the same.

It’s not about playing more notes—it’s about knowing which ones matter and when to use them.

It’s about understanding how every note feels against a chord, and how you can string those feelings together to tell a story.

That’s the kind of fluency this course is designed to build.

The incremental step by step nature of this course is very intentional. I built it on the principles of how we actually learn.

It’s designed to work with your brain—not against it.

Every concept is broken down into small, digestible pieces—just the right size to fit into working memory without overload. You’re never juggling five new ideas at once.

Each new layer only comes after the last one has taken root—after it’s been tested, internalized, and made automatic through real musical use.
